The Poitou-Charentes has the distinction of being the second sunniest region of France after Provence.
Long, hot summers merge into gloriously colourful autumns... winter days are crisp and clear, followed by a remarkably early spring.
The land is green and pleasant, with gently rolling countryside, slowly meandering rivers, and fields filled each summer with sunflowers and rows of vines.
Of major architectural importance (and steeped in history) are the cities of Poitiers, Angoulême and La Rochelle.
The cities also offer superb shops and restaurants and major cultural events such as the Franco-Folies music festival in La Rochelle, the Circuits des Remparts historic motor-racing at Angoulême and choral and organ festivals in Poitiers, not to mention the world famous Futuroscope.

If you are thinking of moving to Poitou-Charentes it is worth considering all the advantages. Apart from the splendid climate, the rural nature of the countryside and the villages means that there is plenty of space and little traffic on the roads. The region is forward-thinking and there have been recent improvements to its main arterial roads and there are soon to be improvements in the rail network, bringing faster connections between the region and Paris, and ultimately the UK. Another benefit arising from this political will is that every household can expect to have a broadband internet connection in the near future - essential if you are planning to run your business from the region and great for keeping in touch with friends and family.
There is already a strong English community in the region. This means that you will have all the means of support and advice you need to establish your home here. A lot of shops and services have English speakers on their staff and there are many English run businesses and interest groups so you will instantly be able to connect with your local community and make new friends.
